The Bronze Age cairn at Raven Craig lies on the road between Bathgate and Cairnpapple, North-west of Wester Drumcross Farm, a few hundred yards North-east of the standing stones on Galabraes. Click here for a location map provided by StreetMap.

The Cairn at Raven Craig, Looking South-east
This cairn was only discovered in 1997 by West Lothian Council workers, despite its prominent position commanding long views to the East, South and West, and its close proximity to other well-known sites in the immediate area, such as Cairnpapple. When we visited the site in 2002, a deep hole had been dug into the centre of the cairn, but not filled in, and which allowed a good view of the internal structure of the walls.

Hole in the Cairn's Centre
It is a relatively small cairn, being some nine yards in diameter, with a number of large kerbstones surviving, marking the circumference.

Kerbstones, Looking North-east
These kerbstones are similar to those which are present in the cairns at nearby Cairnpapple, and perhaps suggest some link between the construction of the two sites.
