Manuscript Source: Llyfr Aneirin, Lyfrgell Ganolog Caerdydd (Cardiff Central Library) MS 2.81
Digitisation Source: John Gwenogvryn Evans, Facsimile & Text of the Book of Aneirin (Pwllheli: 1908)
Edition & Notes by Steve Sweeney-Turner
The CyberScotia online facsimile of Llyfr Aneirin is scanned from the 1908 edition by John Gwenogvryn Evans (1852-1930) published in Facsimile & Text of the Book of Aneirin. Evans also provided a ground-breaking diplomatic transcription, but for current purposes, only only his facsimile is reprinted here. The indices given below give JavaScript pop-up links to each page of the manuscript.* The images were scanned at a resolution of 200dpi, generally yielding JPG files between 280KB-380KB. The following collatory table gives a fuller index to the facsimiles, with a basic guide to the manuscript's overall structure and most commonly-discussed textual contents. Personal names of the interpolated poems' subjects are given in parentheses. Where internal attributions of authorship are only implicit, they are indicated by italics. Manuscript page/line positions of sections are notated as page:line such that 01:01 indicates page one, line one. The missing final ten pages are also indicated. The "Manuscript Facsimile Links" provide individual pop-up windows (using JavaScript) to Evans's facsimiles.

Contents & Structure of the Manuscript
Note that Evans's collotype facsimile edition was published in monochrome. As such, some of the finer details of the manuscript are often obscure, especially those written in red or green ink (such as the rubrics), which unfortunately tend to appear as faded text where they are generally more legible in the manuscript itself. Perhaps most problematically, one can hardly read the rubric on the first line of page one. However, since the original publication of the CyberScotia edition, Y Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru (The National Library of Wales) has published its own online full-colour facsimile edition from the original manuscript, in collaboration with Lyfrgell Ganolog Caerdydd (Cardiff Central Library). This can be accessed from the LGC/NLW's Welsh cultural history project, Gasglu'r Tlysau (Gathering the Jewels).
